Workshops scheduled for the 2009 Richmond Zine Fest (all will be held on the Saturday, November 7th portion of the zine fest at Thinkyspace, which is across the Brook Road side of Gallery 5 unless otherwise noted):
The Prison Industrial System and Prisoner Support (3:45 - 4:45pm)
Taught by Mo Karn, a local activist and zinester who runs Approaching Apocalypse Distro and writes the zine Cuddle Puddles and Hot Pants.
Stash: Personal and Community Issues around Substance Use (11:30am - 12:30pm in the Lucent Phoenix Community Library in Gallery 5)
Taught by local poet and activist Liz Canfield and local activist Quillin Drew.
Introduction to Book Art (12:15 - 2:45pm)
Viewers and readers will have a unique opportunity to see and touch actual works of art based on the book form. Viewers will look at a variety of artists' books from VCU Libraries' Book Art Collection.
1-1.5 hours, taught by Gay Acompanado, Archival Assistant of the Arts at the Special Collections & Archives Department at Cabell Library.
Distribution of Zines (2:30 - 3:30pm)
A how-to on getting your zine out in the world. Learn to utilize the system of trades, Etsy, zine distros, etc.
45 min-1 hour, taught by Alex Wrekk of Brainscan Zine and Stolen Sharpie Revolution and Nicole Harris of Click Clack Distro and Introvert Zine.
